LLR Director Holly Pisarik today presented KBR Building Group - Turner Construction Joint Venture with an award for working 5.1 million hours without a lost-time accident during construction of the Boeing facility in Charleston.
“Completing a project of this magnitude without a lost-time accident is exceptional,” Pisarik said. “It takes management and employees working together as a team to accomplish a safety achievement like this. Less than 1 percent of South Carolina employers reach 1 million safe work hours, so reaching 5.1 million makes KBR Building Group - Turner Construction Joint Venture a leader in construction safety not just in South Carolina but in the United States.”
S.C. OSHA entered into a first-of-its-kind partnership with KBR Building Group - Turner Construction Joint Venture in 2010, whereby resources of both the state OSHA program and private industry were used to identify and eliminate hazardous conditions at Boeing's construction site.
S.C. OSHA's Voluntary Protection Program provided training to the construction employees onsite, and the program's safety consultants were onsite periodically to identify potential hazards.
